Thank you for considering creating a special piece with me! I am absolutely honored and delighted to be your personal seamstress. Custom pieces are my favorite pieces to bring to life! I can help you understand how to measure your daughter precisely so that her heirloom piece fits beautifully. Handmade dresses are usually bigger than pieces found in a store, so measurements are essential. So grab your soft tape measure, and let’s get to work!
Creating a one of a kind piece for your Darling Daughter
This is the classic Anne Dress, inspired by Anne of Green Gables, she is simple elegance with a straight skirt and puffed sleeves—just like Anne likes!
The hem of this straight skirt is adorned with velvet ribbons, appliquéd rose trim, and vintage floral silk ribbon
My daughters prefer to have a sash on their dresses. This option creates more of a fitted silhouette at the waist. This example shows a long and narrow sash, but it can also be made thicker for an extra dramatic touch

The process for ordering a custom, handmade dress:
Please contact me either on social media or by email at darlingdaughter.co@aol.com
I will need at least 4-5 weeks notice before your event. (Longer if we need to order fabric, trims, etc.)
—Send a detailed message about the style of dress you are hoping for. Be very specific about what details your daughter would like. For example, what color fabrics would she like, floral fabric or a solid color, does she want lace or velvet details, what length of sleeve, etc.
—I will respond as quickly as possible with vintage fabric options if I have any available that meet your requests. Please allow a few days for me to respond.
— I will need measurements of your daughter to ensure a proper fit. I will need a chest measurement taken around the bust line, a shoulder to hem measurement for how long you would like your dress (to the knee, maxi length, etc.) Include these measurements in your inquiry as well, as this will determine the vintage fabrics that are available for your piece. If you have questions about how to measure properly, please feel free to message me!
—After all of the details are settled (fabric choice, price, etc.), I will create a listing for you on my website with a detailed description of your piece. Payment is due within 24 hours.
—Because each piece takes many hours of discussion and work, items are not able to be returned. I am, however, very determined to create a piece you and your darling daughter love and want to keep forever!
A few final thoughts:
—Almost all of my pieces are available from newborn size to girls size 10.
—Prices start at $78 for newborn through size 1, $98 for 2T through 4T, $118 for size 5T and above. Each piece varies in price depending on the amount of detailing and amount of fabric needed.
—The fabrics used to create my pieces have been collected over the years from antique and thrift shops as well as vintage fabric groups online. Almost all of my fabrics are cotton or cotton blends and are washed in a gentle non-scented detergent before I work with them to ensure cleanliness and to preshrink them. Each dress is lined with a modern 100% cotton in the bodice.
—My vintage fabric and lace collection is pretty extensive and I can usually find a fabric that will work for your piece, but if I need to purchase additional fabric or trims, that will be added on to your final price.
—I’m always happy to give you a price estimate before you commit to a piece, but I ask for series inquiries only. Example pricing: A simple 5T Anne with a straight skirt at regular length without lace is $118, a Victoria size 10 dress with a large lace ruffle and velvet accents at a maxi length made in a vintage floral with fabric covered buttons is $198. These examples show that prices depend on the amount of time your piece will take to complete, the amount of detailing, and the materials needed.
—Smaller sizes are made with snap button closures in the back that are quick to get off and on wiggly ladies. Real buttons are used on request.
—I love to make replicas of pieces that were worn by your family in the past. It’s something that has become very special to many of my clients. They send me photos of mama’s wearing pieces handmade by their grandmothers and now they want a new piece made for their daughter! It’s an honor to try and recreate these pieces for you, and on occasion I even have the exact same fabric in my vintage collection! I will not recreate pieces from other makers pages, however. Each seamstress has their own unique style and there is plenty of space in the sewing world for all of us. I also kindly ask that you do not ask another maker to create my pieces. Thank you for understanding and valuing our hard work and talents.
